Please join like-minded “global thinkers” for a monthly discussion on the major political/economic issues that our world is currently experiencing.
Initially this event will be a virtual zoom discussion with break out groups.
This month’s topic will be:
The Middle East – Challenges and Opportunities.
We now have a new administration which will face opportunities but also challenges in the Middle East almost immediately upon taking office. With Turkey, we have a NATO member often aligning itself with Russia. In Israel, we have territorial expansionism with domestic uncertainty.
And then there is Iran, where provocations abound – from seizing a Korean tanker in the Strait of Hormuz to increasing their uranium enrichment quota – in a response to US sanctions. While in Saudi Arabia and some of the Gulf States, there is a rapprochement with Israel over the perceived Iranian/Shia threat.
What should our priorities be in addressing these issues? Dr. Roy Casagranda, with Austin Community College, and an expert on the Middle East, will join us initially and provide a brief context to begin what will be a very lively discussion.
