The World Affairs Council of Austin is pleased to have established a collaborative partnership with Amigos de las Américas. Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) is an international nonprofit that provides leadership training and cultural immersion to create a world in which young people realize their full potential as leaders and global citizens. AMIGOS’ summer programs give young people an opportunity to gain life experience and leadership training over 4 to 8 weeks of living and working in communities throughout Latin America.

Since 1965 more than 27,000 young people have participated in AMIGOS programs. These students have worked in seventeen countries in the Americas and collaborate with a broad network of community organizations. AMIGOS empowers its participants to leave their comfort zone and discover what is possible. Living with host families provides participants with an authentic cultural and language immersion that fosters a new level of social and global awareness. AMIGOS offers young people unique life experiences as well as space to explore their independence and do something positive, while being supported by an unsurpassed health and safety system.
